The Dream Called Dainfern
Cradled beautifully between Johannesburg and Pretoria lies the picturesque suburb called Dainfern. Geographically, it is located in Region 1 and 5. The suburb is quite large in dimension and hence is subdivided into a number of villages such as Sherwood, Hampstead and Highgate.
There are two entry points to Dainfern. The first one is through the Broadacres gate and the second one is on William Nicol. Outwardly, both the entrances bear striking resemblances. Lavish white wooden facades with grey roofs and boomed lanes for visitors and residents greet both entry points. However, it is more convenient to take the Broadacres gate because one may miss the turn while trying to enter through William Nicol and drive straight to Diepsloot past two rolling hills.
The Jukskei River meanders its way along the eastern and northwestern boundary of the estate. This place has a tight security system with thick metal beams placed in concrete at 45 degrees. Extra precaution is taken at night when former 32 battalion soldiers guards both sides.
Dainfern As It Is Today
This suburb is not only beautiful to the eyes and aesthetic in its appeal but also promises and guarantees all those amenities that are essential for safe and hassle-free living.
Expect the best of Education
The Dainfern College provides an excellent means of education and extra-curricular activity to all its students. The school, founded in 1996 by Russell and Stella Upneck, is a co-ed institution on Broadacres Drive and caters to the children from Grade 0 to Grade 12. Sometimes, maybe because of its name, it is mistakenly thought to be a part of the well-known Dainfern Residential Golf Estate. However, that is not the case although the schoolshares its boundary and some of its access points with both Dainfern Golf Estate and Dainfern Valley. Dainfern College had a humble beginning with only 35 pupils but now after sixteen years of existence, it boasts of more than 1000 students. Most of the students, at least 75% of them, are drawn from the surrounding estate which helps in the cultivation of a strong ‘family’ feeling.
Apart from this the residents even have the option to send their kids to the many schools of the neighborhood. Fouways and Lonehill provide ample choice. It is, in fact, a long list that includes the American International School of Johannesburg, St. Stithians (both preparatory and college), Brescia House, St. Peters (both preparatory and college), Fourways High School, Kings, Crawford Schools, Heronbridge School and Lonehill (pre-primary, preparatory and college). There is also the Unity College meant especially for the kids with special needs.

The 2001 Census Report puts the population of the place at 2, 213 and quite evidently, much can be added to the number after all these years. Existence of college, shops, and several other organizations keep the job market of the place alive. A survey at Pay Scale says that the salary of the Dainfern College is 91% above the usual market rate.
