History Of Jeffreys Bay
Way back in 1849 there stood a small shop in the place where the town exists today. It was opened by the senior partner of the firm Jeffrey & Glendinnings. It is believed that Jeffreys Bay owes its name to this man who was also the first settler to the place. More than a century has passed since then, bringing about uncountable changes to the town and transforming it intrinsically. With time, Jeffreys Bay metamorphosed from being a small sleepy fishing town to one of the fastest growing urban places in the country. The town that has now become so popular among the surfing community was once hailed as the hippie hangout. But that was in the late 1960s and early 1970s, before it was modified to its present identity.
