A Superb Suberb!
A suburb that is located in the South of Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa, is a reasonably new suburb, emerging during the mid-1970s, making it one of the more countrified neighbourhoods of Johannesburg until recently. It is a scenic residential area with mainly middle-to-higher income residents. A scenic and relaxing place to go, houses are designed with many hills and open terrain areas ranging from medium to large in size.
The main road that runs through Mulbarton is True North road. Along this road is the Mulbarton Shopping Centre and Mulbarton private hospital. Two other shopping centres are located along The Broads. Education is at Peak in Mulbarton from primary to high school education, among the schools are Christian Harvest, Mulbarton Remedial and Glenvista High School. Even though the name of the high school is Glenvista it is technically located in Mulbarton.
A Glance in the Past
Erection of buildings in the suburb of Mulbarton began in 1974. Water and electricity were almost immediately connected while telephone lines were not installed until 1977. Roads were left untarred until 1978-79, after which streetlights followed. The Panorama Drive-Inwas the only source of movies in this suburb and surrounding ones for many years. The location of this drive-in still exists.
However, the screen has been removed and a popular flea market now uses it on weekends and holidays. Just adjacent to the flea market there is now a mall, the Panorama Shopping Centre. In 2008, Bruce Strachan established the community forum that aims to reduce crime in the area as well as to improve on other aspects such as services offered by the municipality. All the streets in Mulbarton, including The Broads, Dereham Drive and King’s Lynn are named after places in the English county of Norfolk. The Maronite Catholic Church in Mulbarton is home to one of two statues of Our Lady of Lebanon.

Shoppers can browse through stalls, try some delicacies such as home-made breads and pickles. Gift shops, stalls of classical music and many more that can give laughter to all who will see the place. Market goers can also indulge themselves with food and beverages offered by the place while sitting and enjoying it in the tea garden with plenty of shade, which is within the market.
Some festivities are the Easter Treasure Hunt, Market and Picnic at the Rietvlei Zoo Farm in Johannesburg. This event is a joint venture between Seeff Properties, JhbSouth, and Rietvlei Zoo Farm to help create awareness for the Zoo as a safe place to enjoy the outdoors with the whole family and to also establish Johannesburg South as a community by providing local residents and businesses, charities, and organizations with a weekend of family fun and entertainment.
Some church and community also organize events such as Mulbarton Fun Day headed by the Mulbarton parish church. Lots of fun activities, games, and races at the central arena events with hymn, lightning of beacon, cheer Chant, BBQ, teas, coffees, and cakes.
